ELIE SAAB - Of Form and Light

Born from the lasting impressions of a journey to the artful city of Barcelona, ELIE SAAB presents the Haute Couture Autumn-Winter 18-19 collection “Of Form and Light” at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, an emotionally meaningful venue, as it hosted the Maison’s very first Haute Couture show in Paris.

Stemming from the influence of Gaudi’s architectural study, the relationship between light, natural forms and structures becomes a major inspiration in Elie Saab’s creations.

Through the Maison’s exceptional signatureembroidery techniques, intricate patterns come to life. Sequins, crystals & pearls, in an array of shapes & sizes, are weaved together creating outlines and details depicting the sinuosity of organic forms, that fuse naturally with feminine waves & curves into sculptural shapes and volumes.

Here, light plays a central role, enhancing the ethereal transparency that delicately seeps through every layer of fabric, while reflecting the brilliance of colours, as it does when shining through sensational painted glass.

Key silhouettes in the collection come in the form of tailored suits, embellished jackets, long coats, and short bustier dresses that introduce the Maison’s take on cocktail glamour.

Perfectly fitted bodices & corsets, often overlaid with luxurious sheers, are meticulously adorned with sinuous designs that capture every ray of light. And longer dresses see their ever-evolving fabrics elegantly drape down to the floor.

Exclusive patterns & prints as imprints of Elie Saab memories are translated onto Brocade, Gazar and a vast variety of precious & noble fabrics.

Like an abstract living & breathing canvas, rich leafy drawings inspired from ornate organic-shaped fer-forgé, swirl around the body, further enhancing the Maison’s refined take on the expression of the natural world.
