Oroma Elewa Relaunches Pop’Africana and Releases Zine, "The Way We Plait"
Pop'Africana's last contribution to the aesthetic discourse on Africa was its reputable fashion art magazine in 2012. To offer broader dialogue, founding art director, Oroma Elewa, relaunched Pop'Africana as a trans-disciplinary cultural platform for contemporary African ideas and stories. Under this new format, Pop'Africana pushes the boundaries on how and in what spaces and formats African stories, old and new, are communicated. Readers can expect multi-media projects, special zines, and unique collaborations.
To mark this return, Pop'Africana has launched a limited edition zine series. The first installment of this zine series is titled, "The Way We Plait", a visual nod to the culture of hair-making in Nigeria and the late photographer, J.D.‘Okhai Ojeikere (1930-2014).
"The Way We Plait" and forthcoming zines from the series are available on POPAFRICANA.COM and at select spaces in New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Cape Town and Lagos.
