From managing our finances to tracking our fitness, is there anything that apps can’t do? Seemingly not: During
Fashion Week,
apps have come to serve an increasingly essential purpose, from
connecting users with the latest runway images (more on that in a
moment) and helping attendees work their way through the myriad of
shows, presentations, and events to booking last-minute primping
sessions or snapping up new ensembles on the fly—and all without
breaking a sweat. Here, the ten apps you need to know to jet through
fashion month in style.
Fashion GPS Radar
There’s the glamour of going to shows, and then there is the reality
of lugging invites, addresses, to-do lists, and maps around a city in
search of your next destination. Fashion GPS Radar streamlines the
process, putting valuable information at the touch of a button and
allowing guests to RSVP directly from their phones. (For stylists, there
is even the bonus of being able to request and reserve looks for
shoots.)
Moda Operandi
The original shop-the-catwalk app and still the best. When you need to ensure that you’ll get first dibs on those
Alexander Wang creepers or
Delpozo
gowns, look no further than Moda Operandi’s wealth of
fresh-off-the-runway trunk shows. Moda has updated its boutiques to
allow users to add items to their wish lists within an hour of each
show, and you can be sure editors will take advantage of this exciting
new feature.
Villoid
Ever wish
Alexa Chung
could offer you a little outfit advice before you got ready in the
morning? The impeccably dressed It girl has launched her very first app,
Villoid, a fashion “dressing up box” that allows users to pull together
outfits and create inspiration boards using products from a range of
brands—
A.P.C.,
Miu Miu, and
Rag & Bone
are early adopters—as well as follow other stylish users. Making the
mood board experience social and shoppable takes the guesswork out of
planning those outfits of the day.
The Net Set
Let’s say you like the looks of your fellow showgoers’ shoes: Snap a
sneaky photo, upload it to The Net Set, and see what matches it comes up
with (hello, same-day delivery!). The previously invite-only app is one
of the easiest (and chicest) ways to make sure you’re always clued into
the latest looks from your favorite fashion tribes.
Flavour
During the chaos of NYFW, taking a breather to enjoy a good meal with
friends and colleagues is essential. Flavour already helps users
discover great new places to eat. The app has put together a curated
lineup of chic spots to grab a late-night bite. For all those post-party
moments when you could use farro salad and fusilli nero instead of a
cocktail, Flavour is a godsend.
Periscope
Snapchat, sure.
Instagram,
obviously. But lately, it’s all about Periscope: The app allows users
to live-stream their exploits directly with followers and link up with
their
Twitter accounts,
plus it offers unfiltered access. During NYFW that means a real-time
look at all the best fashion has to offer—and off-the-cuff commentary
from Periscope enthusiasts like
Tyra Banks.
Hello Alfred
For those not blessed with a full-time personal assistant, Hello
Alfred fills the void with things like picking up dry-cleaning and
groceries, and even offering services such as tailoring and laundry.
Don’t let a deadline or a night-owl schedule prevent you from taking
care of the rest of your life.
Spotcycle
Sure, traveling to shows via Uber has a certain wardrobe-preserving
allure, but there’s nothing quite like getting the wind in your face and
the sun on your back as you cruise along the West Side Highway.
Spotcycle works with Citi Bike to provide a greener alternative to town
cars—and, admittedly, one heck of a street style photo op. Just plan
your shoes accordingly!
Refresh
Massages and yoga instruction for the rare moment when one has time
for a bit of pampering—on demand. Trust us, you’ll need some after this
week.
Vogue Runway
(Well, obviously!) Staying informed on the latest and greatest collections is crucial—and
Vogue Runway’s constant stream of shows, reviews, and images makes it an
essential app
for every fashion obsessive. Enable push notifications for upcoming
shows so you’ll never miss a single update, and get a taste of fashion
history by looking through the archives, which take you back all the way
to 1991.
