Bella Hadid, Xiao Wen Ju, Steven Klein + Stephen Gan

BELLA HADID (MODEL)

·       “Working on Samsung’s fashion forward lookbook was so cool. Bringing together technology with fashion through emotion was breakthrough.  Steven’s concept with Samsung allowed us to express such a range of compelling emotions that everyone can relate to. Photography is my passion, and as someone who spends a lot of time in front of and behind the camera, being able to express myself as BOLD, EXCITED AND PLAYFUL in a creative was important to me. And, I love the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+’s camera and the fantastic filters it comes with! I’m free to capture and edit perfect pictures even when I’m running from shoot to shoot.”

Lookbook:
·       “I’m really excited to partner with Samsung for their lookbook! Working with Steven Klein and Xiao Wen Ju was incredible, as always. I haven’t seen many tech companies create a campaign that’s this fashion-forward, so I loved being a part of it and bringing fashion and technology together in such a cool way!”

Fashion x Tech:
·       “I think the way the fashion and technology industries constantly innovate and continue to inspire each other is awesome. I particularly love the fashionable design of Samsung’s new devices. The dual curved edges on the Galaxy S6 edge+ makes it look beyond beautiful, plus it even gives me direct access to some of my favorite features!”

Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+:
·       “Both the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note 5 are incredible devices, but I particularly love the S6 edge+. When traveling, I always watch movies on my phone so the big screen is definitely a huge plus. I’m also a fan of the awesome camera and editing features since they make sharing my life on Instagram so much easier!”

XIAO WEN JU (MODEL)
Overall
·       “So excited to be working with Samsung to introduce the new Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 to the world! My work with Samsung and the famed Steven Klein on their fashion forward lookbook was an incredible experience. The attention to detail in the shoot, from the complex emotion to the intricate styling, truly reflects the stunning details in the design of the devices.  I really love the power of the S Pen. When I was backstage, I loved doodling and writing notes to my loved ones—my Chinese characters even looked better on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with the S Pen than they do in my normal handwriting!”

Samsung – Fashion x Tech
·       “Samsung has such a long standing history of innovative partnerships within the fashion industry which is why I was so excited to work with them to introduce the fashion industry to Samsung’s latest devices through this lookbook.”

Samsung Galaxy Note 5:
·       “I used to carry a notebook with me all the time to write down my thoughts, memories, emotions and ideas. I like that the S Pen lets me write down all my notes since for these more sentimental things, I rather write it down in my handwriting rather than type it out.”
Favorite Multimedia Features
·       “One of my favorite features is the Video Collage which lets you capture 4 different video quads on the same screen. So when I’m with my friend who is a designer for Baby Ghost, I’ll capture 4 different fashion looks via video but then be able to show them at the same time.”
·       “If you look at my Instagram account, you’ll see that I like capturing unique, different photos – strange and bizarre things that I come across when I’m on the go. Sometime I need to take a photo quickly, so Samsung’s anti-blur feature ensures that my photo is clear and bright.”
·       “As a model, I’m always aware of my angles and the perfect pose. Thankfully, Samsung’s edge+ and Note 5 phones set the new camera standard so I can practice my poses or capture a selfie, no matter where I am!

·       “The concept of shooting fashion that emulates technology was a fantastic experience. I particularly loved shooting “Bold” and capturing Bella’s powerful expression paired with the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+, which is elegant and bold, much like Bella herself. Plus, I love the resolution of the camera. While working, I always find myself taking pictures of the photo selects on my phone since the colors are more vibrant and vivid. I also love the ability to use a tool like the S Pen to edit and provide feedback to the photos before they go to print.  I especially love that it provides me the freedom to do this from anywhere. If I could, I’d show up for shoots with just my smartphone!”

Lookbook Creative Direction:
·       “Some people think of technology as impersonal, but it is actually highly personal and emotional. Technology, like Samsung’s, connects people like never before.  It’s this sense of connection that inspired us to highlight the range of emotions that are triggered by technology, even from something as simple as a text, photo or phone call.”

Fashion x Tech:
·       “The idea of shooting fashion that emulates technology - which in turn is inspired by fashion - was exciting for me because it proves that these two great cultural forces don’t have to exist separately.”

Favorite Device Features:
·       “I love the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 because I’ve never really experienced anything like it. The way you can draw and write with it, and you have so many pen and color options. For an artist, you can create so many types of work and for me, it would save me so much time. For example, it’s so easy when I do my retouching notes, and it allows me to do them anywhere.  I can have a photograph sent to me and then I can write all my notes and redraw things or sketch storyboards. I find that it’s great to have that all in one. It’s really like a great value and great plus.”
·        “I love the resolution of the camera. It looks amazing”

STEPHEN GAN (CREATIVE DIRECTOR)
Overall
·       “I am constantly inspired by how the fashion and technology industries innovate and inspire each other, resulting in design products that seamlessly combine style with substance. When I developed the creative concept behind this lookbook, I was inspired by Samsung’s features and functionality that evoke the incredible range of human emotions we’ve portrayed here. From writing a handwritten note with the S Pen to sharing beautifully captured photos of life’s most memorable moments, we’ve all experienced how a phone can inspire an immediate reaction or emotion. I wanted to capture the feeling that such a powerful device could inspire, as well as the incredible features of the devices themselves.”
