IT was a game of spot the spring/summer 2014 Miu Miu coat at this afternoon's show in Paris. Before we got a chance to see what Mrs Prada had in store for autumn/winter 2014, we were treated to a reprise of last season from the audience alone - which, with Elle Fanning, Rihanna and Jared Leto among it, turned out to be rather high octane for the last day of four weeks and four capitals of fashion.
And Mrs Prada made sure we were going out on a high note too with her ode to the great outdoors: all cagoule coats, transparent rain macs, glossy wellington boots, toggle knits, puffa parkas and quilted little skirts and gilets. It was a bit girl scout, a bit schoolgirl gone camping, something ever so slightly Enid Blyton in there too for Miu Miu girls out on their grand adventure.
The item to note here was the jacket or coat, a point Prada kept hammering home - each look an oversized style, from binman boxy to duffle or parka, rain-terrain-ready or something along the Eighties ski jacket lines (you probably still have one you can dig out). And where the whole of fashion month we've been seeing flats bring a new lease of life to looks, here it was dainty sandals with spindly heels worn with these huge jackets that did that. Everything was a brilliant awkward contrast - a sense of naivety, combined with a desire to grow up, so perfectly encapsulated in each look for that signature subversion.
Just as at Prada in Milan, handbags were worn defiantly so they were pronounced at the back, and accompanied by huge plunging pockets on the coats so that these girls will always always have room to be prepared.
