Hoy, 13 de Junio 2013 se celebra el XXIII aniversario de VAEA. Fue en el Hotel Royalton de Nueva York donde empezamos nuestra misión un 13 de Junio de 1990, con motivo del bicentenario del nacimiento de José Antonio Páez, héroe de la independencia de Venezuela, convertido humanista que vivió en Nueva York la última década de su vida rodeado de las mejores expresiones del arte de su tiempo.
Estamos muy contentos de celebrar este hito con excelentes noticias acerca de nuestros programas e iniciativas. Para VAEA son tiempos muy importantes y significativos en su historia y crecimiento como institución, ya que seguimos desarrollando programas y alianzas que nos ayudarán a continuar y ampliar nuestra misión de: "Fomentar los lazos de amistad entre los Estados Unidos de América y Venezuela a través de programas culturales y sociales binacionales."
Today, June 13th 2013 we celebrate VAEA's 23rd Anniversary, it was on June 13th, 1990 at The Royalton Hotel in New York, when we started our mission on occasion of the bicentennial anniversary of the birth of José Antonio Páez, a Venezuelan independence hero, turned humanist who lived in New York the last decade of his life surrounded by the best art of his time.
We are very pleased to celebrate this milestone with fantastic news about our programs and initiatives. These are very exiting times as VAEA is growing and developing great programs and partnerships that will help us continue and expand our mission: Promoting the ties of friendship between The United States of America and Venezuela through bi-national cultural and social programs.
MEDALLA DE PAEZ
Robert Wilson recibirá la Medalla Páez de las Artes 2013. VAEA se enorgullece en anunciar el galardonado de la Medalla Páez de las Artes 2013 será el artista Robert Wilson.
Wilson ha dejado una marca indeleble como agente de cambio en el teatro experimental, su trabajo se centra en los paradigmas tradicionales y combina las funciones de director, escritor, actor, pintor, coreógrafo y diseñador. Este artista integral ha desarrollado su propio lenguaje simbólico en el uso de texto e imágenes, luz y sonido, generando un estilo que va más allá de las convenciones del teatro y la ópera.
La constante búsqueda de la excelencia y la experimentación de Robert Wilson lo han convertido en una fuente de inspiración y modelo a seguir para los artistas de todo el mundo. Es un gran honor para VAEA celebrar y reconocer el talento de Robert Wilson con su máximo galardón, la Medalla Páez de las Artes.
La ceremonia se llevará a cabo durante la Gala Anual a Beneficio de VAEA el 15 de Noviembre de 2013 en la ciudad de Nueva York. La Medalla Páez de Artes se concede una vez al año a un individuo o grupo que ha tenido un impacto y contribuido a la excelencia, el crecimiento, el apoyo y la proliferación de las artes en Venezuela y Estados Unidos. El 2012 fue homenajeado el artista plástico Venezolano Carlos Cruz-Diez. Robert Wilson será el primer norteamericano en recibir la medalla por su destacada contribución a las artes.
VAEA is proud to announce the recipient of the Páez Medal of Art 2013 will be artist Robert Wilson. Wilson has left an indelible mark as a change agent in experimental theater; his work addresses the traditional paradigms and combines the roles of Director, writer, actor, painter, choreographer and designer.
This comprehensive artist has developed his own symbolic language in the use of text and images, light and sound, generating a style that goes beyond the conventions of theater and opera.
Robert Wilson's constant pursuit of excellence and experimentation has made him an inspiration and role model for artists around the world. It is with great honor that VAEA celebrates Robert Wilson and recognizes him with its highest award, the Páez Medal of Art. The ceremony will take place during VAEA's Annual Benefit Gala on November 15th 2013 in New York City.
The Páez Medal of Art is awarded once a year to an individual or group that has had an impact and contributed to the excellence, growth, support and proliferation of the arts in Venezuela and the United States. The 2012 honoree was Venezuelan visual artist Carlos Cruz-Diez; Robert Wilson will be the first North American recipient of the medal for his outstanding contribution to the arts.
