LA BIENNALE DE VENEZIA - GUEST POST BY TITINA PENZINI in Out There

I just came back from Venice where I attended the preview of the 55th International Art Exhibition entitled "Il Palazzo Enciclopedico" organized by la Biennale di Venezia.  I was invited by various international magazines and TV networks with the objective to cover the ins and outs of La Biennale. “Il Palazzo” was curated by Massimiliano Fioni and the event was chaired by Paolo Baratta.  The award  ceremony and inauguration took place in a festive Venice on Saturday June 1st where artists, galleries, maisons de mode, and collectors got together to celebrate and enjoy the best of contemporary art.  The official award list can be found here
From now until November 24th, 88 countries will be exhibiting their shows in the different Historical Pavilions at the Giardini,  the Arsenale and the city of Venice. “Il Palazzo” draws inspiration from the model of a utopian dream by Marino Auriti who filed a design with the U.S patent office in 1955 , depicting his Enciclopedic Palace; an imaginary museum that was meant to house worldly knowledge. Auritis plan was never carried out staying as a Utopia. But no more, since La Biennale has given us this extraordinary show where “Il Palazzo Enciclopedico” investigates the desire to be able to see and to know everything: it is a show about obsessions and about the transformative power of the imagination. My favorite installations were the main Pavilion with Jung’s Red Book and both Venice’s and China’s Pavilion in the Arsenale. I was also thrilled to see and interact with Maria Luisa Tadei's installation who used the authentic Venetian craftsmanship to give shape to her exhibition La Casa del Sole. My pictures below will give a little glimpse of what I saw. For more, you can go to my blog or follow me on Instagram @titinapenzini
