Es un verdadero
placer invitarlos este año al Art Basel (Basilea) que se celebrará desde el 13
hasta el 16 de junio de 2013. Esperemos que este viaje te lleve a la tierra en
donde los árboles de limón nacen antes o después del Basel. Nuestra intención
es dibijar una línea firme entre las muestras de Venecia y lo que presentaremos
en el stand del Art Basel.
Trabajos de John Bock,Matthew Monahan y Mark
Grotjahn establecen esta conexión y dan sentido a nuestra presentación,
complementada también por una distinguida selección de pinturas, esculturas,
collages y fotografías.
La escultura de
tamaño real realizada en bronce por el artista Matthew Monahan fue elaborada en los mismos talleres de los tres trabajos que presentó en
la Bienal de Venecia. Mitad titán, mitad astronauta, la figura representa el
poder de transformación que poseen los alquimistas.
De igual forma, la galería ha dedicado una habitación
entera al trabajo de John Bock quien
presentará una escultura (más un video) acerca de incidentes ocurridos en un
museo que involucran a tres comerciantes de arte “demasiado entusiastas”. Una
comedia pasional, surrealista y filosófica.
Mark Grotjahn, muestra un grupo de rostros pintados en Punta della Dogana en Venecia. En
su muestra también se exhibirá una máscara de pintada en bronce con una
variedad de verdes, marrones y naranjas que le otorgan a la pieza una expresión
de asombro y ofuscación.
Dos coloridas Cajas de Metal por Jim Lambie, "Testa K", un
retrato de cabeza en cerámica de Alessandro
Pessoli, y una misteriosa figura de pie realizada por un nuevo artista en
nuestro programa, Francis Upritchard
completarán la selección de esculturas. La primera exposición individual de
Upritchard se abrirá inmediatamente después de Art Basel, 27 de junio.
Un par de nuevas fotografías de Anne
Collier. Mientras Marcel Odenbach
nos enviará un gran collage de papel, mientras pone los últimos toques a sus
inmanentes exposiciones retrospectivas de obra sobre papel en el Kunstmuseum de
Bonn, incluyendo un amplio catálogo.
Una nueva planta y flores en su maceta de Jonas Wood; un cuadro pequeño y enérgico por Wilhelm Sasnal, una pintura luminosa por Eberhard Havekost, cuya exposición individual en el Museo
Küppersmühle en Duisburg, Alemania, se abrirán dos semanas después de Art Basel,
un espectacular doble retrato de Lothar
Hempel, y los jarrones de Shio Kusaka
completarán la presentación de este año.
Además de nuestro stand en la feria de arte, Lothar Hempel participa en Art Basel Parcours con una gran
escultura de sitio específico. La apertura al público será el miércoles por la
tarde.

Friends,
It is
our special pleasure to invite you to this year’s Art Basel (June
13 – 16, 2013). May the grand tour take you to the land
where the lemon trees bloom before or after Basel, it is our intention to
draw a straight line between Venice and our booth at Art Basel. Works by John
Bock,Matthew Monahan and Mark Grotjahn establish
this connection and will make up the core of our presentation, complemented by
a distinctive selection of paintings, sculptures, collages and
photographs.
Matthew Monahan’s life-size
bronze sculpture was fabricated at the same foundry as his three works in the
Venice Biennale. Half Titan, half astronaut, the figure personifies the
alchemist’s power of transformation.
We’ve appointed an entire room to John Bock who
will present a sculpture (plus video) surrounding incidents at a museum that
involve three over-enthusiastic art handlers. A passionate surreal-philosophical
comedy.
Mark Grotjahn, who is featuring a
group of face paintings at the Punta della Dogana in Venice, will bring to the
booth a painted bronze mask, marked in a range of green, brown and orange tones
with an expression of wonder and bewilderment.
Two colorful Metal Boxes by Jim
Lambie; “Testa K,” a ceramic portrait head by Alessandro Pessoli;
and a mysterious standing figure by a new artist to our program,Francis
Upritchard will complete the selection of sculptures. Upritchard’s
first solo show at the gallery will open right after Art Basel, June 27.
A couple of new photographs by Anne Collier,
a woman with a camera and a magazine cover will premier at Art Basel. Marcel
Odenbach will send us a large paper collage while putting last touches
to his immanent retrospective exhibitions of works on paper at the Kunstmuseum
Bonn including a catalog raisonné.
A new plant and flower-pot painting by Jonas
Wood; a small and energetic painting by Wilhelm Sasnal; a
luminous painting by Eberhard Havekost, whose 80-works solo show at
the Museum Küppersmühle in Duisburg, Germany, will open two weeks after Art
Basel; a dramatic double-portrait by Lothar Hempel; and our
good-luck Shio Kusaka stoneware vases will round off this
year’s presentation
In addition to our booth at the art fair, Lothar
Hempel is participating in Art Basel Parcours with a
large site-specific sculpture. Opening to the public on Wednesdayevening,
the work entitled “Instrument” will transform the monastic mess hall of the
Historic Monastery Building into a symbolic market place (located in the
Kleines Klingental between the fair ground and the river).
