Event highlights regional collaboration between partners
to promote youth entrepreneurship in Latin America
New York, April 3, 2018 -- Glasswing International, a nonprofit organization that gives children access to quality education, safe spaces, and a community that believes in them, will hold its fourth annual benefit gala in New York City on April 26th. The gala will honor Jane Fraser, CEO of Citi Latin America for Citi’s and Citi Foundation’s notable work with the organization on the Pathways to Progress initiative over the past five years in Latin America. Jane Fraser, will join Glasswing co-founders Celina de Sola, Ken Baker, and Diego de Sola, gala co-chairs Carmen Busquets, Jana Pasquel de Shapiro, Olivier Sarkozy, and Chris Varelas, and over 300 select social figures, business visionaries, and fashion personalities for the celebration in support of vulnerable children and youth. Special guest independent journalist and producer Maria Elena Salinas will deliver remarks to open the evening.
“Central America is one of the most volatile regions in the world, where extreme poverty and violence hinder access to quality education, health, and economic opportunity,” said Celina de Sola. “The education system suffers a lack of resources and children and youth bear the greatest burden. Thanks to Citi and the Citi Foundation over 3,000 students in five countries have benefited from the Youth L.E.A.D. (Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Development) program, receiving educational and vocational opportunities, life skills development, financial capabilities training, and job-readiness training opportunities.”
Glasswing has been a crucial partner in the global expansion of Citi’s signature initiative Pathways to Progress, bringing its efforts to El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.
“Citi recognizes the important role youth play in the economy and seeks partnerships with long standing experts on the subject, such as Glasswing,” said Jane Fraser. “By investing in programs that develop the employability, self-confidence, entrepreneurship, and experiential learning of youth in the region, we are investing in the future.”
Led by the philanthropic efforts of the Citi Foundation, and strengthened by the active involvement of dedicated Citi volunteers, the Pathways to Progress initiative supports programs that help young people, ages 16-24, build an entrepreneurial mindset, acquire leadership, financial and workplace skills, and begin to engage in the formal economy through a first job.
The gala, to be held at Tribeca Rooftop, will include dinner, dancing, live entertainment, and an auction, as well as remarks by Jane Fraser, Maria Elena Salinas, Celina de Sola, and a youth beneficiary.
