Gagosian is pleased to participate in Frieze New York 2018 with a solo presentation of works by Robert Therrien.
In his investigations of form, perception, and subjectivity, Therrien isolates recognizable elements and objects from everyday life, imbuing the ordinary with an otherworldly air. His work demonstrates the transformative power of scale and viewpoint, from giant tables and chairs and towering stacks of oversize plates, to drawings of familiar shapes and forms, which he distills and refines to create a lexicon of symbols, both ambiguous and charged with memory.

May 3–6, 2018
Randall’s Island Park, New York
Curated by Matthew Higgs (White Columns, New York), Frieze New York’s first-ever themed section—titled For Your Infotainment / Hudson and Feature Inc.—will be dedicated to the legacy of the dealer Hudson (1950–2014) and his influential gallery Feature Inc. (Chicago and New York). This section will highlight artists who came into prominence at Feature Inc. in the 1980s and ’90s, including Tom of Finland, Raymond Pettibon, and Takashi Murakami.
Within this themed section, Gagosian will present works in different media by Takashi Murakami, including large-scale paintings, sculptures, and drawings. Murakami’s distinct visual language, precise technical skills, and complex engagement with global visual culture draw from many sources including traditional Japanese painting, Western art history, sci-fi, and anime.
During the fair, Gagosian is pleased to offer a selection of prints by Takashi Murakami available through the Gagosian Shop and Artsy.
