With hundreds of shows every season—and thousands of models who walk in
them—2015 provided countless opportunities for catwalkers to distinguish
themselves on the runway. Though there was competition: Hollywood
celebrities, upside-down dancers, and even Derek Zoolander himself found their way down the runway in 2015. In preparation for 2016, we take a look back at the year’s most memorable model moments, from creeping cuties at Maison Margiela to Gucci’s next generation of stars.
Saint Laurent Brings Back Agyness Deyn
Agyness Deyn ruled the
fashion scene of the early aughts with a pixie cut and an iron fist:
2015 brought her back to the runway (for
Hedi Slimane’s
Saint Laurent) and back into the spotlight.
Anna Cleveland Played Spin-the-Model
Who says you can’t have fun on the runway? Anna Cleveland’s twirling star-turn for
Moschino was wild and wonderful.

Derek Zoolander, So Hot Right Now
Call it viral
marketing, cross promotion, or just a “really, really good-looking”
runway cameo, but Derek Zoolander and Hansel’s trot down the runway at
Valentino’s Fall 2015 show was an epic moment for everyone’s favorite faux male model.
Bare-Naked Ladies at Jacquemus
Nudity was a recurring theme on this year’s runways, but nowhere was it as shocking as at
Jacquemus’s Fall 2015 show, where some models were more covered by paint than anything else.
Dolce & Gabbana’s Babymama
Paying tribute to
motherhood by having model moms take to the catwalk with their babies in
tow was one of the year’s best (and cutest) ideas. For model Ashleigh
Good, who closed
Chanel’s Fall 2014 couture show while pregnant, the event took things full circle with the runway debut of her daughter, Emily.
And So I Creep . . . Down the Margiela Runway
It is rare for models
to be offered the opportunity to do something other than the standard
walk, but when they do, it can be unforgettable. Aneta Pajak’s hunched
rush down the Maison Margiela runway provided a theatrical twist on the
typical.
Balenciaga’s Cast of Characters
The most interesting lineup of the year came when the runway provided a mix of models with luminaries from other realms:
Balenciaga’s mix of Hollywood It girls
Zoë Kravitz and Bella Heathcote with modeling phenoms like
Anna Ewers and Mica Arganaraz provided a case in point for an appealing casting template.
Brazilians Do It Better
Even supermodels need a
respite from the runway now and then. This year saw the return of
Brazilian beauties Raquel Zimmermann and Caroline Ribeiro (to
Givenchy and
Versace) after a long hiatus—just in time to show the new girls how it’s done.
KenGi
The glitz and media frenzy of the
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show met its match in
Kendall Jenner and
Gigi Hadid: The power duo BFFs made headlines and history with their shared debut on the VS catwalk.
Gucci Girls: The Next Generation
To some extent every brand uses model selection as a means of distinguishing themselves, but
Gucci has always taken it to the next level.
Alessandro Michele’s
womenswear debut brought with it an exciting new crew of beauties
including Lia Pavlova, Liza Ostanina, and Shaughnessy Brown.
