Bulgari Serpenti creations continue to be among the most coveted lots at worldwide jeweler sales: two extraordinary
Serpenti wristwatches have been sold on November 10th for a total of almost 600.000 Swiss Francs at Christie’s “Magnificent jewels” auction in Geneva.
Both creations were
designed by Bulgari in the 1960s and show the irrepressible creativity
of the Brand in reinterpreting such a powerful sign playing with colors
and precious materials. In the first auctioned
model; coral, onyx and diamonds adorn entirely the animal body while in
the other lot a crest of jadeite, ruby eyes and diamonds embellish the
snake head. Since their first introduction as wristwatches in the
1940s, the
Serpenti creations asserted themselves as messengers of Bulgari’s
cultural roots and glamour. As years went by, eclectic
reinterpretations in tune with major trends and prestigious endorsements
consolidated their status of brand icons, symbol of seduction
and glamour.
Coiled tightly around
the history of humanity, the serpent is a powerful symbol dating to
ancient Greek-Roman mythology. In the ancient world, no leader is more
closely associated with the snake than Cleopatra.
